Description
The Tiptop Audio Buchla 296t module emulates the complexity of Don Buchla’s Programmable Spectral Processor Model 296. This module features 16 fixed-frequency filters, all sharing the same inputs. Let’s break down its key components:
- Comb Filter Outputs: These provide the sum of the odd and even filter bands.
- Attenuator Outputs: Respect the front-panel level control sliders, delivering summed outputs of all bands and the odd/even bands as groups.
- Programmed Outputs: Controlled by the Program Control, Programmed Spectrum Transfer, and Local Program CV controls. You can “scan” the filterbank and focus on specific frequency ranges with voltage control.
- Local Program Inputs: Voltage control inputs for granular control of each band’s level at the Programmed Outputs.
- Programmed Spectrum Transfer: Allows connecting envelope follower outputs from odd bands to even bands’ CV inputs (and vice versa) for vocoder-like behavior.
- Direct Envelope Follower Outputs: Available for each band.
Despite some compromises due to the Eurorack format, the 296t retains most features of the original Buchla module, making it a valuable addition to any 200t system.
