Description
The SOMA Laboratory DVINA is for adventurous bowed players composers and sound designers. DVINA is SOMAs first electro-acoustic instrument inspired by Hindustani and Persian classical traditions while still feeling at home in European music. Instead of a pickup the signal is taken directly from the metal strings as they vibrate in a strong magnetic field created by a hidden neodymium magnet in the neck. A custom transformer in the body brings that signal up to a standard output level using a principle similar to a ribbon microphone. With a mono output DVINA can plug straight into pedals guitar amps or an audio interface without extra gear. Its stripped-back construction means every part serves a purpose while strap locks allow secure body mounting. Compatible with common violin or cello bows and a wide range of metal string options DVINA invites experimentation while remaining direct and playable.
