Description
The Teenage Engineering EP-40 Riddim Performance Synthesizer is a powerful performance synthesizer designed for producers and performers who want hands-on control of reggae dub and dancehall sounds. Its a powerful sampler sequencer and synth that lets you shape every loop and texture in real time. Grid-synced loops and reggae-inspired FX make it simple to create flowing grooves that react naturally as you play. The EP-40 Riddim includes over 400 handcrafted sounds with input from respected reggae artists and producers. It features classic bass tones warm synth presets and pressure-sensitive dub sirens for adding energy to live sets or recordings. With up to 12 stereo or 16 mono voices you can layer sounds freely without losing clarity. Complete with the EP-40 Riddim is the EP-2350 Ting microphone (available while stocks last!) which allows you to sample your voice with the option of applying four different vocal effects for added fun and flexibility. Designed for creative flexibility the EP-40 Riddim includes a subtractive synth engine nine editable projects and a full range of onboard FX. It connects easily through MIDI USB-C or sync I/O and can be powered by four AAA batteries for mobile setups. Sample resample and sculpt your own sounds Sampling on Riddim is central to its design. Press Sample to capture from mic line-in or resample your own patterns then assign recordings directly to pads. Input level and recording threshold are adjustable ensuring clean takes in any setting. Hands-free sampling can record the exact length of your loop or multiple bars ideal for capturing evolving textures. Resampling merges layers or entire sections into a single sample streamlining performance setups. With the EP sample tool users can transfer projects between Riddim and computer preserve low sample rates for lo-fi character and store up to 50 minutes of mono audio in the internal memory. Chop mode lets you slice recordings automatically using beat detection or manually by ear with precise control over start and end points via dedicated knobs. Play sequence and build complete tracks Creating a beat on Riddim is immediate. Each project can contain multiple groups and up to 99 patterns per group. Press Record and Play to capture ideas live with a four-count in or hold Record to input per-step for pinpoint sequencing. Extend patterns adjust tempo between 40 and 399 BPM and commit your work to save scenes as new song sections. Keys mode transforms the pads into a chromatic keyboard for melodies or basslines while scale selection ensures every note fits the track. Advanced controls for unbound creation Quantise keeps performances tight and Timing Correct can be applied to single notes for detailed rhythm control. Note Repeat enables fast hat rolls or rhythmic triggers that follow the chosen note interval from 1/1 to 1/32 including triplet divisions. The fader adjusts group volume by default but can control any assignable parameter. Two rotary knobs manage tempo swing filter or FX while holding Shift slows control for fine adjustment. With Song Mode up to 99 scenes can be arranged to form a full track. Commit saves progress and duplicates scenes allowing new variations without overwriting previous sections. Shape your mix with powerful FX and live performance tools Riddim’s FX engine includes delay reverb distortion chorus filter compressor and phaser each easily accessed through the FX button. Every group can send to one master effect while the total mix passes through a final compressor for consistent output Hold FX to transform the pads into Punch-In FX controls that add real-time performance gestures and pressure-sensitive modulation. Live Input FX processes any external signal through the same effects chain letting synths or mics share the sound design space. The master compressor provides control over drive and speed tightening drums and smoothing mixes while sidechain compression can duck specific sounds using note triggers to shape groove and movement. Vinyl-style tempo behaviour slows and detunes audio naturally during tempo shifts for organic feel in Live State mode.
