Teenage Engineering's first synth – the OP-1 – initially hit shelves in 2011. Almost overnight, this portable powerhouse developed a more-than justified reputation as an essential piece of gear that any self-respecting producer, sound designer or artist shouldn't be without. Ten years may have passed since its release, yet demand for the OP-1 has remained consistently high.

Now, with over a decade of firmware updates, engineering ingenuity and advances in technology under their belts, Teenage Engineering return to centre stage with the latest iteration of their cult classic: the OP-1 Field. But what are the main surface-level differences when compared to its predecessor? How does a new field-specific colourway, low aluminium frame, glass screen and 100 exciting new features and functions sound? For a deeper dive, check out some of the key enhancements and additions below!

About Teenage Engineering

We have new and used Teenage Engineering musical equipment available on our website for fast direct delivery from sellers across the UK & Europe.

Teenage Engineering is a Swedish electronics company known for its innovative and design-driven audio equipment. Founded in 2007 by Jesper Kouthoofd, David Eriksson, Jens Rudberg, and David Möllerstedt, the company quickly gained a reputation for blending functionality with minimalistic aesthetics. Their flagship product, the OP-1 synthesiser, released in 2011, revolutionised portable music production with its compact size, intuitive interface, and playful design. The OP-1 became iconic due to its versatility, allowing musicians to create everything from beats and loops to entire tracks on a single device. This commitment to user experience and creative expression has been central to Teenage Engineering’s ethos, making them a standout in an industry dominated by traditional designs.

In addition to the OP-1, Teenage Engineering expanded its range with products like the Pocket Operator series—affordable, pocket-sized synths with distinct visual styles and sound capabilities. Their collaboration with IKEA resulted in the FREKVENS collection, bringing music-making tools to mainstream audiences. The company’s emphasis on quality, design, and innovation extends to newer releases such as the OP-Z and the TX-6, a tiny but powerful mixer. Through their focus on simplicity, playful design, and powerful sound tools, Teenage Engineering has cultivated a passionate community of creatives, cementing their status as pioneers in electronic music hardware.
