Steinberg

Steinberg is a German company specialising in music production software and audio hardware. Founded in 1984 by Karl Steinberg and Manfred Rürup, they are best known for developing Cubase, one of the most popular digital audio workstations (DAWs) used by musicians, producers, and composers worldwide. They also created Nuendo, a high-end DAW for post-production and film scoring, and played a key role in the development of the VST (Virtual Studio Technology) standard, which revolutionised music production by enabling software instruments and effects.

In addition to software, Steinberg manufactures audio interfaces and controllers, such as the UR and AXR series, known for their high-quality preamps and integration with their software. The company has been a subsidiary of Yamaha since 2004, benefiting from Yamaha’s expertise in sound engineering while continuing to innovate in music technology.
