The Twisted Electrons Blast Beats is a hybrid drum machine and synthesizer that delivers the sounds of retro sound cards and computers from the early ’90s. At the heart of Blast Beats is a vintage FM synth chip, commonly known as the OPL3 chip. When used at the time, these created what can be described as ‘Chiptune music’. Now with advances in technology and programming, they can be used to their full potential to produce rich, dirty and unique sounds that stand out from anything you’ve heard before. Often nostalgic and quirky, the sounds of the OPL3 chip harkens back to the soundtracks of DOS games. Blast Beats is an all-encompassing 10-voice synth with six rhythm sounds and four synth voices. Comprised of a bass drum, snare drum, toms, open and closed hi-hat and cymbal drum voices; Blast Beats drum sounds venture off the beaten path, giving you retro sounds that you wouldn’t get in traditional drum machines and the four synth voices are made-up from two monophonic voices and two duophonic voices.
