A Gateway Synth…
If you’re an avid musician that’s keen to get into proper analogue synths without the heavy price point of a moog or the complexity of a modular system, the minilogue is a fantastic starting point. The stylish design has got a simple layout where each function has it’s own physical control for a real tactile experience. However if you’re completely green, help is at hand with a whopping 200 presets. So you can just choose a sound you like to get started and tweak, using your ears to hear what each control does.
What’s more the Minilogue has a built in OLED display which will show you the waveform as you sculpt your sound. This visual feedback not only looks cool, but is really helpful and educational when you’re learning how synthesis works. If you have more experience in synths, you can dive deep into the heart of the minilogue with over 100 editable factory programs included, and 100 blank locations that you can use to build your sound from scratch.
Configurable Voice modes.
The Minilogue features 8 selectable voice modes that let you freely configure the four voices for performance. The voices can be set to four note polyphony for chords or layered for thick basses and leads. Other modes cover a range of sounds from octave shifted bass explosions to delicately staggered layered triggering.
The 8 models are…
- POLY – operates as a four-voice polyphonic synthesizer
- DUO – operates as a unison two-voice polyphonic synthesizer
- UNISON – operates as an all-unison mono synthesizer
- MONO – operates as a mono synth with sub-oscillator
- CHORD – produces chords
- DELAY – voices 2–4 sound consecutively at a delay following voice 1
- ARP – an arpeggiator operates with up to four voices
- SIDE CHAIN – when a note sounds, the volume of the preceding voice is lowered

Korg has been a leading name in synthesizers since the 1970s, establishing itself with the creation of classic analogue synthesizers like the MS-20 and ARP Odyssey. The MS-20, introduced in 1978, became a beloved instrument for its gritty, aggressive sound and semi-modular architecture, making it a favourite in genres from punk to techno. Korg’s recreation of the ARP Odyssey brought a legendary duophonic synthesizer from the 1970s back to life, preserving its unique sound while adding modern features. These early instruments set the stage for Korg’s reputation as a forward-thinking company with a deep respect for analogue synthesis.
In more recent years, Korg has continued to innovate with the Korg M1, which defined the sound of the late 80s and early 90s with its digital synthesis and built-in sequencer, and the Korg Volca Series, offering compact and affordable analogue and digital instruments that allow musicians to build portable modular setups. The Korg Minilogue and Monologue have also made waves, providing analogue sound with modern features like programmability and built-in effects. Across decades, Korg has balanced accessibility with innovation, creating instruments that cater to professionals and newcomers alike.

An analogue synthesiser is a type of electronic instrument that generates sound through analogue circuitry, using voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs), filters, and amplifiers to create and manipulate audio signals. Unlike digital synthesizers, which use binary code and samples to produce sounds, analogue synths rely on continuous electrical signals, resulting in a warm and rich tonal quality often associated with classic music production. The sound generation process typically involves shaping waveforms, such as sawtooth, square, or sine waves, which can be further modified using various modulation techniques, allowing musicians to create a diverse range of sounds and textures.
Analogue synthesizers often feature hands-on controls, such as knobs, sliders, and switches, providing a tactile and intuitive interface for sound design. This direct interaction allows musicians to manipulate parameters in real-time, fostering creativity and experimentation during live performances or studio sessions. Although they may require more effort to program compared to their digital counterparts, analogue synthesizers are cherished for their unique character, unpredictability, and the organic nature of their sound, making them a favourite among electronic musicians, composers, and sound designers seeking to capture the essence of classic synthesis in their work.
This synthesiser supports polyphonic playback, allowing you to play multiple notes simultaneously. With its ability to create lush chords and complex harmonies, it’s ideal for composing rich textures in your music. Whether you’re crafting intricate soundscapes or layering parts for a full arrangement, the polyphonic capabilities ensure your sound remains vibrant and dynamic.
A synthesizer, often abbreviated as synth, is an electronic musical instrument that generates and manipulates sound electronically. Synthesizers create sound through various methods, including subtractive synthesis, additive synthesis, frequency modulation synthesis, and wavetable synthesis, among others. They typically feature oscillators to produce raw waveforms, filters to sculpt the timbre, envelopes to shape the sound’s amplitude, and modulation sources to add movement and complexity.
Synthesizers offer a vast range of sounds, from classic analog tones to futuristic digital textures, and are used in a wide array of musical genres, from electronic and pop to rock and film scoring. With their versatility and expressive capabilities, synthesizers are essential tools for musicians, producers, and sound designers seeking to explore and create innovative sonic landscapes.
