Description

The Behringer KOBOL Expander Synth is New and made by Behringer a great Synth Expander . Available from SynthforSale now for £ 155 with delivery to all areas of the UK.

The Kobol Expander from Behringer is a 2 voice fully analogue synthesizer What makes this synth unique is the VCO waveforms can morph between all wave shapes found in the 2 analogue oscillators Inspired by the sound of the 70 s, notable uses of similar synths from this period are, Vince Clarke, Vangelis, Jean-Michel Jarre, Depeche Mode, Peter Gabriel and Hans Zimmer

Whilst being monophonic, The Kobol Expander does contain the ability to Poly Chain up to 16 Voices, you could get 3 of these to create your own 3 voice analogue synth, however you could also use other Poly Chain compatible devices to create your own unique analogue poly synth

Key Features:

  • 32 CV Patch Points:
The Kobol Expander has 32 patch points ready to go, incorporate your Eurorack instruments and CV capable equipment CV allows you to expand and even combine units together, for example the Behringer Neutron can be expanded with the Kobol Expander The unit is also in a Eurorack friendly form factor along with a lot of Behringer s other equipment
  • Sweepable waveshapes:
The waveshapes can be swept (morphed) between the different waves A lot of other synths allow you to select different waveshapes via a selection The Kobol Expander allows you to morph between them, giving you the ability to have total freedom and fall upon new waveforms, total sonic freedom
  • External Audio processing:
The Audio input allows you to route audio through the units circuity Allowing you to add the Kobol s analogue saturation to beef up another synth, or even add some dirt and grit to a drum beat

Behringer is a well-known German manufacturer of audio equipment, ranging from mixers and amplifiers to synthesizers and digital effects processors. The company was founded in 1989 by Uli Behringer and has since grown into one of the largest and most influential players in the pro audio industry. Behringer is known for its commitment to providing high-quality products at affordable prices, often disrupting established markets with its competitively priced offerings. In recent years, Behringer has gained particular attention in the synthesizer market with the introduction of various analog, digital, and hybrid synthesizers. Some popular types of synth gear from Behringer include:

  1. Analog Synthesizers: Behringer has released several analog synthesizers inspired by classic designs from the 1970s and 1980s. These synths often offer authentic analog circuitry, vintage-style controls, and modern features at a fraction of the cost of their vintage counterparts. Popular models include:
    • Behringer Model D: A faithful recreation of the iconic Minimoog Model D monophonic analog synthesizer, featuring three oscillators, a ladder filter, and extensive modulation options.
    • Behringer Neutron: A semi-modular analog synthesizer with dual oscillators, a flexible patchbay, and built-in effects, offering extensive sonic possibilities and modulation capabilities.
    • Behringer Pro-1: A clone of the Sequential Circuits Pro-One monophonic analog synthesizer, featuring two VCOs, a classic 4-pole low-pass filter, and a sequencer/arpeggiator.
  2. Digital Synthesizers: In addition to analog offerings, Behringer has ventured into the realm of digital synthesis with instruments that offer a wide range of sounds and features. These synths often combine digital signal processing with analog-style controls for intuitive operation. Popular models include:
    • Behringer DeepMind 12: A polyphonic analog/digital hybrid synthesizer with 12 voices, extensive modulation capabilities, built-in effects, and a user-friendly interface.
    • Behringer DeepMind 6: A more compact version of the DeepMind 12 with 6 voices of polyphony, offering similar features and sound quality in a smaller form factor.
    • Behringer TD-3: A tribute to the iconic Roland TB-303 Bass Line synthesizer, featuring an authentic analog signal path, built-in sequencer, and distinctive acid bass sound.
  3. Hybrid Synthesizers: Behringer has also released synthesizers that combine analog and digital technologies to offer a unique blend of classic and modern sounds. These instruments often provide a versatile palette of sonic possibilities suitable for various musical genres. Popular models include:
    • Behringer Odyssey: A faithful recreation of the classic ARP Odyssey duophonic analog synthesizer, featuring two VCOs, a resonant low-pass filter, and a distinctive dual-voice design with cross modulation capabilities.
    • Behringer Poly D: A polyphonic analog synthesizer inspired by the iconic Minimoog Model D, offering four voices of polyphony, a 37-note keyboard, and extensive sound shaping options.
    • Behringer MS-1: A faithful recreation of the classic Roland SH-101 monophonic analog synthesizer, featuring a single oscillator, sub-oscillator, resonant low-pass filter, and built-in sequencer/arpeggiator. The MS-1 offers the same iconic sound and workflow as the original SH-101 in a modern, affordable package.
Overall, Behringer synthesizers have gained popularity among musicians, producers, and enthusiasts for their combination of affordability, sound quality, and feature set. Whether you’re looking for vintage-inspired analog tones, modern digital sounds, or a hybrid of both, Behringer offers a range of options to suit different preferences and budgets.

Synthesizer

A synthesizer, often abbreviated as synth, is an electronic musical instrument that generates and manipulates sound electronically. Synthesizers create sound through various methods, including subtractive synthesis, additive synthesis, frequency modulation synthesis, and wavetable synthesis, among others. They typically feature oscillators to produce raw waveforms, filters to sculpt the timbre, envelopes to shape the sound’s amplitude, and modulation sources to add movement and complexity.

Synthesizers offer a vast range of sounds, from classic analog tones to futuristic digital textures, and are used in a wide array of musical genres, from electronic and pop to rock and film scoring. With their versatility and expressive capabilities, synthesizers are essential tools for musicians, producers, and sound designers seeking to explore and create innovative sonic landscapes.
